Planning a Themed Activation

The team from LHM reached out to plan an activation for a seafood boil themed launch party. This personalization station was to be planned alongside a seashell candle making activation as an alternative. We worked through ideas based on the theme, brainstormed items like engraved bottle openers, flasks, and wood burning wooden crab mallets.

The crab mallet idea won out and I ordered a few as a material test to ensure the activation would hold up at scale. I sent the photo (right) to the client and the item was approved!

Live Wood Burning in St. Louis, MO

The event was held at the Canopy at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Chesterfield and setup was a table, chair, and access to power. The wood burning tool takes up a very small footprint, with minimal load in and is ready almost instantly.

Guests tricked in as I was finishing setting up, and were delighted to have crab mallets made. Guests could choose from a name, initials, or monogram on their mallets. With the wood burning method, there was no dry time required and each mallet took about 30 seconds. Guests loved watching their mallets be personalized in real time as part of the activation.

I personalized 48 crab mallets over the course of the evening as a solo live calligrapher. This keepsake was perfectly on theme for the event and such a fun personalized item for guests to take home!
